You are invited to hear solutions and discussion from attendees of a recent gathering at Xavier University of Louisiana which discussed many of the various issues impacting young adult Black Catholics.

The group which is composed of young adult Black Catholics from around the country in the 18-40-year-old range represents various perspectives and demographics (single, married, divorced, student, employed, underemployed, unemployed, left the church, involved in ministry, parents, etc.)

This national discussion will center around issues such as:
  • What it means to be Black and Catholic in today's world
  • The realities that Black Catholic Young Adults face
  • What the Church is doing correctly and incorrectly to connect with young adult Black Catholics
  • A call to action for the Church as a whole
  • A call to the Black Catholic Community to address Black Catholic Youth and Young Adults’ increasing disaffiliation from the Catholic Church
  • The members' passion for a Church where Black Catholic Young Adults are genuinely welcomed and accepted as their authentic selves.
This discussion is not an attack, but a reality check. The hope is that institutions and organizations take a hard look at themselves and use the suggestions / plans to create effective change to address realities.

Facilitator – Dr. Ansel Augustine
Panelists – James Conway, Rudy Dehaney, Ali Mumbach, and Christian Bentley

This webinar is sponsored by The Knights of Peter Claver; the Archdiocese of New Orleans Office of Black Catholics; and the Loyola University of New Orleans Institute for Ministry. The Saint Peter Claver Foundation was one of the major sponsors for the initial gathering which took place at Xavier University of Louisiana in November of 2023.
